Sunday Mornings: 8:30 - 9:45 am
Dates: Jan. 8th - March 26th
Room: New Hope Room 4
Leaders: Josh Huisman and David Taylor

SUN-01: Dad Tired and Loving It

About this Connect Group:
Join Josh Huisman and David Taylor, as they'll help you get equipped and encouraged as you become the man God is calling you to be—even when you’re dad tired.

In this Connect Group, you'll learn that spiritual leaders:

  • realize their story isn’t the story—it’s all about Jesus
  • point their wives, children, community, and world toward God
  • stumble their way through spiritual leadership rather than doing nothing
  • seek humility rather than striving for perfection
  • refuse to let their sin and shame stop them from leading their family
  • look for adventure in the kingdom of God, not in the world
  • create gospel-centered memories with their wife and children

When you begin to understand the bigger picture of God’s purpose for you in your marriage and family, you’ll see that the good news of Jesus makes it possible for you to love and lead without fear and discouragement.

As Your Children Grow, Will Their Faith Grow Too? As both stories and statistics attest, the number of evangelical children who abandon Christianity in adulthood is staggering. To see effective change, parents cannot leave their child's faith to chance. Rather, families must start nurturing faith early-you cannot start once your child is grown, you must start at home. Strengthening family and home life is the best way to encourage your children to maintain a lifelong faith. It Starts at Home upholds marriage and family as the proving ground for lasting success. Join our Children's Director, Lauren Cochran and her husband, Bo, as they provide a clear purpose, effective strategy, and a simple plan for anyone who wants to be intentional in their homes.

This incredibly practical and beneficial Connect Group will help you identify and develop an evangelical style that is effective for you, teach you how to respond to commonly asked questions, so that we may be known as those who walk with Jesus and speak the gospel with boldness, no matter the cost.

SUN-02: A Woman's Wisdom: How the Book of Proverbs Speaks to Everything

About this Connect Group:
Advice and self-help books are no short-lived trend, even though much of the advice parading as “wisdom” proves shallow in the long run. What we need is biblical wisdom, and even more than that we need our hearts to be set on the One who governs all our practicalities.
Join Jacqueline McDonald and learn how the book of Proverbs unlocks the key to both, helping us to face very real challenges such as:

  • handling our freedom, independence, and material resources wisely
  • keeping ourselves sexually pure
  • practicing biblical femininity in a world that scorns us for it
  • sustaining God-glorifying marriages
  • elevating biblical priorities ahead of day-to-day pressures

As we explore the timeless counsel in the book of Proverbs, this Connect Group will help us to better know the very Author of wisdom and to apply His relevant, how-to riches to our lives.

SUN-03: Identity in Christ

About this Connect Group:
"You are your own, and you belong to yourself."

This is the fundamental assumption of modern life. And if we are our own, then it's up to us to forge our own identities and to make our lives significant. But while that may sound empowering, it turns out to be a crushing responsibility―one that never actually delivers on its promise of a free and fulfilled life, but instead leaves us burned out, depressed, anxious, and alone.

But the Christian gospel offers a strikingly different vision. Join Ron Creech this semester as we explore how this simple truth reframes the way we understand ourselves, our families, our society, and God - instead embracing a different phrase: "I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ."

About this Connect Group:
Join Del Wright in the Four Priorities, as he dispels the myths about discipleship and reveals the truth: If you are a follower of Jesus, you are capable of making disciples. This Connect Group will follow along with the practical and biblical approach of authors Dr. John Tolson and Larry Kreider, who have created a simple and realistic tool for you to learn how to structure your time and life by biblical standards, identify personal strengths and weaknesses and how God can use them, align yourself with the will of God, and help others by discipling them to do the same.

TUES-01: Understanding Islam:
A Biblical Approach to Sharing Christ with our Muslim Neighbors

About this Connect Group:
In our day, it's common for people to hold uninformed opinions and ideas about other religions. This is particularly true with regard to Islam. Being an effective witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ to Muslims starts with an understanding of their beliefs and practices.

In Understanding Islam: A Biblical Approach to Sharing Christ with our Muslim Neighbors, join Pastor Austin W. Duncan as we discuss the central tenets, the history, and the practices of the Islamic faith. You will learn to think biblically and critically about Islam for the sake of more effectively witnessing, and sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ to our Muslim neighbors. That by our witness, they may in turn share in the blessings of faith in Jesus Christ.

The word FIERCE is used to describe women who are extreme athletes, high-level executives, or supermodels. Women at the top of their game. But what about the rest of us? Can we be fierce? Absolutely! In fact, women like us have been changing the world for thousands of years-many who received little fanfare yet lived fiercely anyway. Join Carol Castillo this semester as we look at lesser-known female characters in the Bible and the ways they changed the world by living into God's calling.

About this Group:
When the Lord gave us the Bible, He gave us a Story. It's the best and truest Story ever told.

Each story is like a pearl, beautiful and of great price on its own. But what's more beautiful is stringing the biblical pearls together. Through the Bible, we know who the Living God is, what He's like and what it is to walk with Him. But beyond just reading the Bible - we interact with it. It is living and active and so we are we. When we sit down with the Word of God, it is life with life. The Bible is like a great feast. Great food is best experienced with great people, so join leaders Kelly Wegner and Nancy Erickson at the biblical table for every episode of Pearls.

We are getting ready to learn over and over that the Living God is BETTER than we ever knew.

What does it look like for people to experience the love, power, and presence of God so strongly they're transformed from the inside out? Many people go to church when it's convenient, occasionally read their Bibles and pray, and sometimes feel close to God, but He's not the passion and purpose of their lives. They may be believers, but they're not devoted disciples. Join Dr. Phil Roberts in this Connect Group, as he gives a clear contrast between believers and disciples, and leave feeling inspired to experience more of God than ever before.

About this Group:
Join Kacie Oja, as we learn that in a trembling, unsteady world, we can gain stability, find peace, and trust in God.

This world has a tremble to it. There are things that seem unsteady in this life. But when we belong to God, it allows us to filter our problems through the promises of God. We choose to be people of the promise, we choose to build our lives on the promises of God, not the circumstances of life.

The stories of the men and women in Scripture were different, but the theme was the same: they were People of the Promise. Because of God's promises, Noah built an ark on dry land, Joshua claimed the Promised Land, David became king, Peter preached the first sermon, and John caught a glimpse of the future. Like them, we can also build our lives on God's promises, and trust him to keep them.

The Book of Acts, pt. 2

Join Tracy Collom in studying the book of Acts this fall semester.  Luke recorded what happened after Jesus’ ascension to the Father.  Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, empowering the apostles to testify to the power of God in salvation and in living every day for the gospel.

Learn how God spread the gospel and stand in awe of the power of God in believers to endure persecution and suffering for the cause of Christ.

You will identify how to embrace Gods power in your life and be encouraged by the results of faithful servants holding forth truth in a dark world.

Investigate the Man Who Changed the Course of Human History.

Join Austin W. Duncan, as we practice a unique, investigative strategy to confirm the historicity and deity of Jesus, showing why Jesus is unlike any other person who has ever lived.
In this group you will:
  • Be invited into the life of a cold-case detective as we uncover the truth about Jesus, using the same approach detectives take in solving their cases.
  • Learn how to become a good detective, using an innovative and unique "fuse and fallout" investigative strategy you can also use to examine other claims of history.
  • Explore common objections to Christianity.
  • Strengthen your faith and give you confidence to engage with those curious about Jesus with evidence for his one-of-a-kind, world-altering significance.
