Christmas Talent Time!

Okay, I am going to break my number one rule when it comes to the holiday season. Usually I don’t talk about Christmas until Thanksgiving is over, but today I need to make an exception. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, and nothing beats celebrating the birth of Jesus, but Thanksgiving holds a special place in my heart. The whole idea of Thanksgiving is to be thankful. We are encouraged not to worry about getting or giving gifts, but to simply be thankful for what we already have. I love that! Which is why I am going to post this picture before I make the next announcement…

Alright, now that we have that out of the way I can tell you about one of my favorite Christmas events that happen at New Hope. It’s our annual Celebrate with Family Dinner and Talent Show! On the evening of Sunday, December 17th we have a potluck dinner in the Fellowship Hall (the church provides the meat), and then we walk over to the sanctuary where some of New Hope’s finest are able to share a talent with those in attendance.

In the past we’ve had poems read, songs sang, dramatic skits, humorous skits, instrumental performances, and more. If you, your family, or friends would like to be a part of this year’s talent show we need to know. A sign-up page will be coming soon to the website. You must sign-up in advance to be included in the talent show. Make plans to join us on the 17th, it is always a magical evening!

Following the worship service on December 10th, we will be having our end of the 2017 year Town Hall Meeting. This meeting will probably run around 15 to 20 minutes and will update you on any leadership announcements and the financial report for the church.

As our first semester of Connect Groups comes to an end I am so excited to see God’s hand of blessing all over them. We saw a record number of people get involved in the groups. Pastor Mark did a wonderful job of coordinating groups that met in homes, as well as the church. When the new semester begins in January I would encourage everyone to look for a Connect Group to participate in. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the people in my group. We have shared prayer requests, had great conversation and created much-needed bonds with new friends in the church. Do yourself a favor and get connected!

For those of you who participated in a Connect Group this Fall, the time has come for a break! That’s right, we have built into these Connect Groups a time when we would like everyone to step back and rest. (We just taught a series on that.) For those who met in home groups, you can look forward to the next semester starting. For those who met in a Sunday morning group, I would encourage you to utilize this time away from your group. One way you could do that is by picking a book from the Bible and reading that during what would have been your group time. In any event, the break is meant to give you a breather so you have a fresh wind and fresh fire for when your next group starts in January. Utilize the break!

If not, and you’re a creature of habit, you can still come during the 9 o’clock hour. We can hang out in the gallery and chat. We may even have a special guest speaker give a testimony on December 10th. We’ll keep you posted!

Finally, this Sunday from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM we will be having a Ministry Fair in the gallery of the church. All of New Hope’s various ministries will be represented and you’ll be able to learn about serving opportunities throughout the church. A full breakfast spread will be available so you won’t be hungry. In fact, you should be able to eat enough that you’re ready to take a nap when my message starts in the service!

Lots of great things are happening at New Hope. Have a blessed week!

Pastor Josh
