Helping the Women’s Rescue Mission

Hello New Hope,

Every once in a while I thought it would be nice to tell you about a few local mission opportunities our church is involved in. So to kick things off, I’ll talk about the Nashville Women’s Rescue Mission.

The Nashville Rescue Mission is a Christian ministry dedicated to offering help to the hungry, homeless, and hurting in the Nashville area. With one campus for men and another for women and children, the Mission offers food, housing, education, counseling, and the love of Christ to those in need. On the first Monday of each month we send two different teams, at two different times, to the Women’s Rescue Mission to accomplish two different things. Are you still with me?

First, families and friends of New Hope volunteer to serve dinner to the women and children at the mission. This takes place from 4:45 – 6:15 PM. The rescue mission has a strict rule that whoever receives dinner must also attend the evening’s Chapel service. This is a worship service where we lead worship and have one of our own, usually Tracy Collom, deliver a message. This takes place at 7:00 PM.

Over the years we have seen the Holy Spirit move in these services in great ways. We are given opportunities to share Christ, to pray, and to have meaningful conversations with the women who feel forgotten or “cast off” by society. If you have never served in either of these two places I’d like to encourage you to do so. However, if you are not able to attend and serve, this week there is another way you can help meet a physical need at the mission.

The leaders of the Rescue Mission have informed us that they are in need of twin sheets, both flat and fitted. They also are in need of bath towels. This Wednesday evening and Sunday morning we will be collecting these items in the gallery of the church. A table will be set up and you can drop off the sheets at the table. These sheets can be purchased new, or can be gently used. Walmart and Target are good options for new sheets, while Goodwill often has a nice selection gently used twin sheets. We will be serving food and leading worship this coming Monday so we’d like to bring as many sets of twin sheets with us as possible.

Thank you in advance for your giving hearts. Please be in prayer for all those who serve the mission, but even more importantly, the women and children who reside at the mission. It is our desire that each of them would know how much Jesus loves them and desires a relationship with them.
